On June 26th, 2021, the Office of Science Management and International Affairs (FPT Education) co-organized with the English Linguistics Department of FPT University Ho Chi Minh City Campus (FPTU HCM), and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP, Malaysia) to hold a seminar with the topic: “How to be a critical reader: New perspectives in new times”. The seminar also attracted more than 60 participants.
The Opening Ceremony
The seminar attracts the participation of Vice-Rector of FPT University Ho Chi Minh City Campus, Dr. Tran Ngoc Tuan; the Academic Head of FPT University Ho Chi Minh City Campus, Mr. Tran Tuan Anh; the Head of English Linguistics Department of FPT University Ho Chi Minh City Campus, Dang Thi Minh Thuyet, The Acting Head of Science Management and International Affairs Office, Ho Thi Thao Nguyen as well as the attendance of staff of the Science Management and International Affairs Office; numerous lecturers from campuses of FPT University, and students from FPTU HCM.
The Guest Speaker of the seminar was Dr. Chong Su Li – Senior Lecturer – Department of Management and Humanities – Institute of Self Sustainable Building – Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (Malaysia)

At the seminar, the speaker emphasizes about “why critical reading is important in the 21st century and how to apply critical reading strategies to make judgments on their reading materials”. Interestingly, Hands-on exercises were given with actual reading materials so that the audience can practice what they learn from the presentation.
After the seminar ends, the Organizing Committee has received the good feedback on the Guest Speaker, the presentation and interaction with the audience. Additionally, the participants expect to have more time for the seminar in general and more time for Q&A session in particular. Last but not least, the participants are willing to the academic seminars in the future.
