GALLIVANTING CON SON (SON ISLET)

GALLIVANTING CON SON (SON ISLET)

Duration: half a day (Indochina, GMT+7)

Transport: Car and boat

13:00 The tour guide and the tourist bus pick up the tourists, heading to Co Bac Wharf.
13:30 From Co Bac Wharf, the tour group takes a ferry-boat along the Hau River, starting their trip to Con Son (Son Islet) – A community-based tourism village in Can Tho.
13:45 Visiting Mr. Bay Bon's floating fish farm as the first destination, tourists will learn about the native and typical fish of the Mekong River such as small-scale archerfish, the giant bard, and pink catfish. The tour group will have a chance to explore the process of fish farming on rafts, feed the raised fish, and take photos of the unforgettable moments of their exploration.
14:30 Then the boat will head to Con Son (Son Islet). Tourists can now stroll around, enjoying the fresh ambiance of a typical Mekong village and experiencing different activities in this community-based tourism village. These activities include:
  • Watch flying snakehead fish: widespread on social media, presentations of flying snakehead fish have turned Son Islet into a special phenomenon, making the islet a must-visit destination on the tourism map of Can Tho City.
  • On-land feeding catfish: At Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam’s garden house, tourists can also watch catfish jumping onto the ground to eat their food.
  • Visiting fruit orchards with a variety of fruit trees: longans, rose apples, or Nam Roi pomelos, and so on. Tourists to the islet would have a chance to stroll around the fruit orchards, enjoy the sweet of the seasonal fruits, or even buy some to bring home as gifts for friends and family.
  • Making traditional cakes: It is nothing better than having opportunities to savor these freshly baked and delicious hand-made cakes such as jackfruit tree leaf cakes or pancakes.
  • Making popped rice cake: popping sounds of the rice have always been a part of 9X’s and older generations’ memory. The rice launches into an explosive spectacle for the eyes and ears, creating hot and fragrant puffed and popped rice.
Toward the end of the trip, tourists will have an opportunity to try a variety of traditional cakes and enjoy Don Ca Tai Tu – a typical and special kind of music in the Southwest of Vietnam.
16:30 The tour group takes the ferry-boat back to Co Bac Wharf. Then the whole tour group will return to the hotel.
